In a tragic incident, 35-year-old Indian Jujitsu athlete Rohini Kalam was found dead at her home in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday. Police have stated that preliminary investigations suggest suicide as the cause of death.

According to reports, Rohini Kalam—who represented India in the Asian Games—was discovered hanging in her room by her family. Her younger sister, Roshni, told police that Rohini had been working as a martial arts coach at a private school in the city of Ashta.

Roshni recounted that on Saturday, Rohini had returned home to visit her family. The following morning, she had breakfast as usual and then went to her room to take a phone call. After locking the door, she was later found hanging. Family members rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Family sources revealed that Rohini had been under stress due to work-related pressure and repeated rejections of marriage proposals. Her sister further alleged that, based on Rohini’s last phone conversation, she appeared to have been harassed by the school principal, which may have worsened her mental distress.

Police have confirmed that no one else was present in the house except Rohini and her sister at the time of the incident. A detailed investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to her death.

Rohini Kalam had previously brought pride to India by winning a bronze medal at the 8th Asian Jujitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi. Her untimely death has left the sports community in shock and mourning.
