Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the second phase of Lahore’s electric bus project, launching 40 new environment-friendly buses aimed at improving urban transport and reducing pollution levels across the provincial capital.

The new fleet will operate on major city routes including Canal Road, Jail Road, and Ferozepur Road, connecting key residential and commercial zones. According to Punjab Transport Department officials, each bus is fully air-conditioned, equipped with CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi, and smart card ticketing systems for commuters’ convenience.

Maryam Nawaz, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, said that the government’s vision is to modernize Lahore’s public transport system while promoting clean and sustainable mobility. She added that the initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to tackling climate change and transitioning toward green energy solutions.

The first phase of the project, launched earlier this year, deployed 26 electric buses across Lahore’s central routes and received positive public response. With the second phase now operational, the city’s electric transport network has expanded to 66 buses in total.
