Russia has expressed cautious support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s recently unveiled Gaza peace plan, saying it hopes the proposal will be implemented and lead towards ending the ongoing conflict.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow “welcomes any efforts … aimed at ending the tragedy that is currently unfolding” in Gaza and called for these initiatives to “help bring events in the Middle East to a peaceful conclusion.
At the same time, Russia reiterated its support for the two-state solution, insisting that any peace process must recognize the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
Russia has been critical of past Israeli military operations in Gaza over the past two years, and has used this opportunity to underscore that its support for peace must also come with respect for international norms and human rights.
