U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Russia’s recent missile test, calling it an unnecessary provocation amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters, President Trump said the United States “doesn’t need to go that far,” noting that an American nuclear submarine is already stationed near Russia’s coast. He added, “I don’t think it’s appropriate for Putin to say they’re testing missiles. He should be ending the war — a war that should have ended in a week, and now it’s in its fourth year.”
Trump urged Moscow to end the war instead of showcasing military power, describing the conflict in Ukraine as Europe’s deadliest war since World War II.
He emphasized that achieving peace in Ukraine would be “even more difficult than reaching a ceasefire in Gaza or resolving disputes between India and Pakistan.”
When asked whether Washington was considering additional sanctions against Russia, Trump responded briefly, saying, “You’ll find out.”
Analysts say Trump’s remarks reflect growing frustration within the U.S. administration over Russia’s continued military activities, even as global efforts intensify to bring about peace in Eastern Europe.
