Turkey has signed a major defense deal with the United Kingdom to acquire 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets, a move aimed at significantly strengthening its air defense capabilities.
The signing ceremony in Ankara was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan and British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. President ErdoÄŸan described the agreement as “a new symbol of strategic partnership” between Turkey and the UK.
According to reports, the deal is valued at approximately $11 billion, and the first batch of Eurofighter jets is expected to be delivered by 2030.
Turkey’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that discussions are also underway with Qatar and Oman to purchase an additional 12 Typhoon aircraft each, as Ankara seeks to maintain its strategic edge in the region, particularly against rival powers such as Israel.
Turkish officials revealed that the country ultimately plans to acquire a total of 120 advanced fighter jets to modernize its air fleet.
It is worth noting that in July, Turkey and the UK had reached a preliminary agreement for the purchase of 40 Eurofighter jets, laying the groundwork for this landmark deal.
