Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were stalked and molested by a man on a motorcycle near their hotel in Indore on October 23, just days before their World Cup match against South Africa.

According to police reports, the accused — identified as 28-year-old Aqeel Khan — followed the players and inappropriately touched one of them before fleeing the scene. The victims immediately informed the hotel management and team officials, who alerted local authorities.

Using CCTV footage, the Indore police traced and arrested the suspect within six hours. He has been charged under Sections 354 (molestation) and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code.

Cricket Australia confirmed the incident and thanked local authorities for their swift response. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav strongly condemned the act, assuring that security protocols for international teams will be further tightened for the remainder of the tournament.

The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of women athletes in India and the need for stricter measures to protect visiting players.
