YouTube has announced five new features aimed at making the platform more engaging and viewer-friendly on TV screens. The announcement underscores the growing importance of creators, with channels earning six-figure revenue on TV experiencing a 45% increase over the past year, according to Kurt Wilms, YouTube’s Senior Director of Product Management.
Key New Features:
- Larger Thumbnails: Creators can now upload thumbnails up to 50 MB, up from the previous 2 MB, enabling the use of 4K resolution images.
- AI-Powered Upscaling: A new feature will upscale videos from 1080p to HD, with future plans for 4K support, ensuring higher quality on TV screens.
- Immersive Home Previews: Channel homepages will now include immersive previews and show designs for a richer and more engaging viewing experience.
- Prioritized Search Results: When viewers search for a channel, related videos will appear first in search results, helping content remain visible.
- Tagged Shopping Videos: QR codes in tagged shopping videos will allow viewers to open product pages instantly, with tests underway to display products at specific video timestamps.
YouTube highlighted that the living room has become a new prime-time spot for creators, and these tools are designed to ensure that all types of YouTube content look great on large screens.
