Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has officially announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will mark the end of his illustrious career, confirming that it will be his final international appearance.
Speaking to an international news agency, the Portuguese superstar said, “The next World Cup will be my last. I’ve achieved everything I dreamed of in football, and now it’s time to start preparing for life after the game.”
The 39-year-old forward, who has played for some of the world’s biggest clubs—including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus—hinted that he could retire from football entirely within the next one or two years.
Portugal has yet to secure qualification for the 2026 tournament, but Ronaldo expressed confidence that his team will earn their spot.
In an earlier interview, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner reflected on the reality of aging in professional sports, saying, “At 40, you can’t continue with the same intensity. I’ve been preparing for retirement since I was 25. Every journey has an end, and I want to dedicate more time to my family and children.”
Ronaldo’s announcement has sparked emotional reactions from fans and fellow athletes around the globe, marking the beginning of the end for one of football’s most celebrated eras.
