The latest round of peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan has once again ended in a deadlock, despite mediation efforts by Turkey and Qatar. Pakistani officials expressed appreciation for the two countries’ role in facilitating dialogue but voiced disappointment over the lack of progress.

Minister for Information Atta Tarar stated that Pakistan considers strong ties with Afghanistan vital for regional peace and stability. However, he criticized the Kabul administration for failing to fulfill its commitments regarding the elimination of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.

“Pakistan will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard its people, national security, and sovereignty,” Tarar asserted, emphasizing that the primary responsibility to curb cross-border terrorism lies with Afghanistan. He added that Kabul must honor the pledges it made before the international community to prevent terrorist activities.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s principled stance, Tarar said the government would not alter its policies under any pressure. He stressed that Pakistan holds goodwill toward the Afghan people and envisions a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan.

He further noted that Pakistan has carried out successful counterterrorism operations within its borders, with the global community recognizing its sacrifices. “It is now time for Kabul to take practical steps so that both nations can move forward toward lasting peace and stability,” he concluded.
