At least 54 people were injured in an explosion that occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque located within a school in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, according to international media reports.
Police officials said that the injured were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The cause of the blast has not yet been determined, and authorities have begun an investigation to ascertain the nature and source of the explosion.
Security forces and emergency teams promptly arrived at the site, cordoning off the area while forensic experts collected evidence.
An eyewitness, a school teacher, described the chaotic scene, saying that the explosion happened just as the sermon began, sending worshippers and students rushing for safety. “There was panic everywhere, and many students fell as they tried to flee,” he said.
Authorities have assured that all possible angles — including accidental causes or foul play — are being examined, while the injured remain under medical care.
