Heavy rains on November 14, 2025, have caused widespread flooding across displacement camps in Gaza, collapsing fragile tents and leaving thousands of families without proper shelter as winter approaches. The downpour turned makeshift settlements into pools of muddy water, forcing residents—including children—to desperately rescue what little belongings they had left.
According to United Nations officials, only 5% of the 300,000 tents promised for Gaza have reached the territory, largely due to ongoing restrictions on humanitarian aid despite a fragile ceasefire with Hamas that has held since mid-October. With winter setting in, the lack of adequate shelter poses life-threatening risks for the displaced population.
Eyewitnesses from the camps described scenes of chaos and desperation as families waded through waterlogged areas, searching for dry ground. Many tents collapsed under the weight of the rainfall, leaving people exposed to freezing temperatures.
Humanitarian experts warn that the flooding significantly raises the risk of hypothermia, waterborne diseases, and respiratory infections—particularly among children and the elderly. Currently, an estimated 1.48 million Palestinians urgently require proper shelter and winter assistance to survive the coming weeks.
