Iran has formally expressed its desire to join the defense cooperation pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, signaling a potential new chapter in regional military collaboration among Muslim nations.
During an interview on Geo News’ program “Capital Talk,” Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that Iran should also be included in the Pakistan–Saudi defense agreement, emphasizing unity among Islamic nations in the face of shared challenges.
Qalibaf further proposed that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should form a joint Islamic military alliance, similar to NATO, to safeguard the collective interests of Muslim countries.
Highlighting the situation in Gaza, the Iranian Speaker urged Pakistan and other Muslim nations to deploy a joint military force to protect Palestinians, stressing that no action should be taken that could strengthen Israeli occupation.
Earlier, while meeting FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh and his delegation, Qalibaf lauded Pakistan’s support during Israel’s recent aggression, saying, “No Iranian will ever forget Pakistan’s solidarity with us in difficult times.”
He described Pakistan as a valuable asset for the Muslim Ummah, noting that both countries face common regional challenges that can be overcome through cooperation. Qalibaf added that there are vast opportunities for collaboration in medicine, energy, and banking sectors, which could further strengthen bilateral ties.
