Renowned Kannada film actor Harish Rai has passed away after a prolonged battle with thyroid cancer, Indian media reported on Thursday. The actor was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru, where he breathed his last.
Harish Rai gained widespread fame for his powerful performances in the hit films “Om”, where he played Don Rai, and “KGF”, in which he portrayed Uncle (Chacha) — a role that made him a household name across India.
According to multiple media reports, his illness had spread to his stomach, severely weakening his body in recent months.
Expressing grief over the actor’s passing, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar shared a heartfelt tribute on X (formerly Twitter), posting Rai’s picture and honoring his contribution to cinema.
Throughout his illustrious career, Harish Rai worked in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu films, leaving an indelible mark with notable performances in movies such as Om, Samara, Bangalore Underworld, Raj Bahaddur, Sanju Weds Geetha, and both parts of the KGF series.
Following the news of his demise, tributes have poured in from fans and film industry colleagues, mourning the loss of a talented artist whose work transcended regional boundaries.
