A measles vaccination campaign will be launched in Larkana from November 17 to 29, 2025, aiming to immunize 263,000 children against the highly contagious disease. The campaign will combine door-to-door visits with educational seminars to ensure widespread coverage.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sharjeel Noor Channa, while chairing a preparatory meeting for the Measles and Rubella Catch-Up campaign, stressed the importance of public awareness and meticulous planning. “The campaign’s success depends on effective planning and execution, just like our polio campaigns,” he said.
Dr. Channa directed the health department to form teams at the Union Council level, prepare a detailed micro plan, and engage social mobilizers and Rescue 1122 personnel to support the campaign.
The district health department, noted for its strong performance in past polio campaigns, is expected to bring the same dedication and organization to this initiative. Officers from the education department and school headmasters will also assist in mobilizing children and parents.
Officials highlighted the risks posed by measles, which can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and high fever. Globally, measles has caused the deaths of approximately 16 million children between 2000 and 2023.
In Larkana, the first phase of the campaign will target 113,609 children, following a Measles-Rubella plan modeled after previous polio vaccination campaigns. Health teams will implement the plan to ensure maximum coverage and protection against the virus.
