Iconic Indian film star Dharmendra passed away on Monday morning at the age of 89 at his Mumbai residence after a brief illness. His death marks the end of an era for Bollywood, where he reigned for decades as one of the most beloved and influential actors.

The news of his passing was confirmed by filmmaker Karan Johar, who shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. Calling Dharmendra “the end of an era,” Johar praised him as a true megastar and the very embodiment of the classic mainstream cinema hero. Indian media reported that the veteran actor died just days before his 90th birthday.

According to reports, Dharmendra’s final rites will be held at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai. His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across the film fraternity, with colleagues, fans, and industry leaders remembering him for his timeless performances and dignified presence.

In his tribute, Karan Johar highlighted the actor’s charm, cinematic legacy, and the magnetic on-screen aura that made him an icon for generations. He described Dharmendra not only as a remarkable actor but also as a warm and compassionate human being who was deeply respected and loved throughout the industry.

Johar added that Dharmendra’s love, blessings, and generosity will always be remembered, noting that his absence will leave a lasting void in Indian cinema. “We will always remember the one and only Dharam Ji,” he wrote.

Dharmendra had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on October 31 after experiencing breathing difficulties. He was placed on a ventilator on November 10 and, after weeks of treatment at the private facility, was discharged on November 12. His doctor, Dr. Pratit Samdani, later confirmed that his treatment would continue at home.
