Over 50 U.S. Institutions Hit by Cyberattacks Exploiting Microsoft Windows Server Flaw

More than 50 government and private organizations in the United States have fallen victim to cyberattacks after hackers exploited a critical security vulnerability in Microsoft’s Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

According to Cybersecurity Dive, the attackers leveraged the flaw to gain unauthorized access to computer systems across multiple sectors, including technology companies, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and industrial firms.

Experts revealed that the vulnerability allows hackers to inject malicious code into the system, giving them control over servers and enabling potential data theft or disruption of operations. Investigations indicate that the attackers had been monitoring targeted networks for weeks, collecting information to plan larger, more damaging attacks in the future.

Cybersecurity specialists have urgently advised all organizations to install the latest Windows Server updates, close sensitive network ports, and conduct full system audits to detect potential breaches.

Meanwhile, both Microsoft and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have issued warnings that organizations failing to patch the flaw promptly could become primary targets in upcoming large-scale cyberattacks.
