The Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed that the moon for Jamadi al-Thani was not sighted in Pakistan. The first of Jamadi al-Thani will now fall on Sunday. A notification has been issued based on the recommendation of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its advance moon-sighting calendar for the year 2026. The document, prepared by the Climate Data Processing Centre, outlines expected dates for each Islamic month, along with moon-birth timings, sunset hours and visibility windows.

According to the PMD, the moon for Shaban is likely to be sighted on January 21, while the moon of Ramadan is expected on February 18. Shawwal is forecast for March 19, followed by Dhu al-Qa’dah on April 18, 2026.

The department further predicts that the moon for Dhu al-Hijjah will be visible on May 17, for Muharram on June 15 and for Safar on July 15. Rabi al-Awwal is expected to be sighted on August 13, 2026.

Similarly, the forecast places Rabi al-Thani’s moon on September 12, Jamadi al-Awwal on October 12 and Jamadi al-Thani on November 10. The month of Rajab is projected to begin with a moon sighting on December 10, 2026.

Officials said the calendar is based on astronomical calculations and atmospheric data to help both the public and institutions plan ahead.

In a related scientific note published earlier, NASA reported that Earth’s second “quasi-moon” will continue orbiting alongside the planet until 2083, underscoring growing global interest in celestial bodies and orbital phenomena.
