Pakistan’s National Electronics Complex (NEC) has developed and displayed a new anti-drone system — the "SAFRAH" Drone Jamming Gun — that officials say can neutralize kamikaze drones and their remote controllers from up to 1.5 kilometres. The device was showcased at the ongoing Maritime Expo in Karachi.

NEC partner company representatives demonstrated the gun’s capability to lock onto drones approaching from across borders and either seize control of them or render them inoperative and force them to land. “This gun works at a 30-degree angle with a 1.5 km range,” said Hamza Khalid, the manager of the company that manufactures the jamming system. He added that the firing angle can be adjusted as required.

Hamza Khalid told reporters the Sifra system can be installed along national borders and deployed at large public events within cities to protect crowds and infrastructure. “With this gun it is easy to target and neutralize drones coming from across the border,” he said.

According to the manufacturer, once a drone enters the Sifra’s operational envelope the system takes control or disables the platform and its controller, enabling operators to either recover the drone or force it down safely. Khalid also asserted the system can handle multiple incoming hostile drones: “No matter how many come, the gun has the full capability to neutralize them.”

Exhibition visitors and defence observers at the Maritime Expo were shown the unit’s portable form factor and heard claims about its suitability for both fixed border deployments and mobile protection roles at events. NEC and the producing company framed the Sifra as a sovereign, homegrown response to the increasing use of small unmanned aerial systems in cross-border incidents.

The announcement comes amid regional security concerns over the use of improvised and commercial drones for reconnaissance and attack missions. Pakistani officials emphasized the importance of indigenous counter-UAV defences to protect civilians, critical infrastructure and border integrity.
