Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Senator Irfan Siddiqui has passed away after two weeks of treatment at a private hospital in Islamabad, ARY News reported.
Senator Siddiqui, who was serving as the parliamentary leader of PML-N in the Senate, was known for his close association with party president and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. His passing marks the loss of one of Pakistan’s most respected political and intellectual figures, drawing heartfelt tributes from across the country’s political spectrum.
A renowned journalist, poet, and statesman, Irfan Siddiqui’s career spanned more than four decades, during which he made significant contributions to Pakistan’s political thought and democratic development.
Born in 1946 in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Siddiqui’s journey from journalism to national politics reflected his lifelong commitment to dialogue, integrity, and public service. Since March 2021, he served as a Senator from Punjab and chaired the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, where he advocated for balanced diplomacy and regional peace.
Political leaders, journalists, and intellectuals have expressed deep sorrow over his demise, describing him as a man of principles whose intellect and wisdom left a lasting mark on Pakistan’s political and journalistic institutions.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family soon.
