The Sindh government announced on Monday that double-decker buses for Karachi have arrived at the port and will soon begin operating on city roads. Senior Minister for Transport Shahjeel Inam Memon confirmed the development through a post on social media.
“These buses will soon be on roads for the people of Karachi,” Memon said, emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to improving public transport facilities in the metropolis. The arrival of the buses marks a key step toward enhancing urban mobility in the city.
The announcement follows plans unveiled in November to introduce both double-decker buses and new electric buses as part of Karachi’s transport modernization drive. Authorities say the initiative aims to provide affordable, reliable, and efficient commuting options for residents.
Memon also revealed that the Sindh government plans to launch an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service by December. In addition, 500 more buses are expected to be added to the public transport fleet during the current financial year.
According to officials, these measures are designed to ease traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and address long-standing transport shortages in Karachi, one of Pakistan’s most populous cities.
Beyond Karachi, the government plans to introduce new routes under the People’s Bus Service in other districts of Sindh. Officials say the expansion will improve connectivity and access to public transportation for residents across the province.
