Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar met Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in a rare high-level interaction between the two countries following recent tensions.
The meeting took place at the residence of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, according to diplomatic sources familiar with the interaction.
During the encounter, the Indian foreign minister personally walked over to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s seat and greeted him with a handshake. The gesture was reciprocated warmly by the Pakistani speaker, who responded with a smile.
The two leaders exchanged brief pleasantries and inquired about each other’s well-being during a short conversation lasting a few minutes. Welcoming remarks were also shared between both sides.
This interaction is being viewed as a notable diplomatic moment, as it marks the first face-to-face engagement between senior leaders of Pakistan and India since the recent conflict between the two countries.
Observers say the brief meeting, though informal, carries symbolic significance amid strained bilateral relations and ongoing regional tensions.
