| Britain announces end to dependence on America |
The United Kingdom has announced a major shift in its defence policy, declaring an end to long-standing reliance on the United States and confirming that it has begun preparations for a potential large-scale war.
According to an international news agency, UK Minister for the Armed Forces Colonel Escott Cairns warned that the “shadow of war is knocking at Europe’s door,” stressing that Britain must now be fully prepared to defend itself. He revealed that hostile intelligence activities targeting the UK have increased by more than 50 percent over the past year, highlighting growing security threats.
The British minister emphasized that NATO countries must significantly increase defence spending to meet emerging challenges. He admitted that for the past five to six decades, the UK had effectively outsourced much of its defence to the United States, but said this approach is no longer sustainable.
“We must move away from this mindset and take full responsibility for our own defence,” Cairns stated, underlining the need for greater military independence and readiness.
As part of these measures, the UK government has announced the establishment of a new Defence Counter-Intelligence Unit, aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to detect, counter, and neutralize espionage and hostile intelligence operations conducted by adversarial states.
The announcement signals a significant transformation in Britain’s defence strategy amid rising geopolitical tensions across Europe.
