WhatsApp is testing a new Instagram-style feature that will allow users to save unfinished status updates as drafts, making it easier to complete and publish them later, according to a report by WABetaInfo.
The feature is currently available to a limited number of users on WhatsApp’s beta version and is designed to improve how users manage incomplete status content. It follows WhatsApp’s earlier introduction of a draft-saving tool for chats, which helps users quickly identify messages that were typed but not sent.
With the new update, the draft-saving process is being extended to the Status section. The report notes that the option has been spotted within the Status editor, enabling users to save unfinished status posts instead of losing progress when exiting the editor.
Once rolled out, users will be able to save incomplete text, photo, or sticker-based statuses as drafts and return to finish them at a later time. This enhancement mirrors Instagram’s approach, where a dedicated draft section appears inside the editor window.
To support this feature, WhatsApp is reportedly adding a new “Save” button in the Status editor. By tapping it, users can store their incomplete status securely until they are ready to publish it.
As the feature is still in the beta testing phase, there is no official timeline for when it will be made available to all users globally. However, its appearance in testing suggests WhatsApp is actively working to enhance user convenience and content management.
