At least four police personnel were martyred in separate shooting incidents in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed on Tuesday, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
According to a spokesperson for Lakki Marwat Police, unidentified motorbike-riding terrorists opened fire in Sarai Naurang city, targeting traffic police officials on duty. As a result, three traffic police personnel were martyred on the spot.
The fallen officers were identified as Traffic Police Incharge Naurang Jalal Khan, Constable Azizullah, and Constable Abdullah. The attackers managed to flee the scene immediately after the assault. The bodies of the martyred officers were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sarai Naurang for legal formalities.
In a separate incident, Bannu Police reported that a police constable was martyred in Mandan area. Constable Rashid Khan was on his way from home to Mandan Police Station for duty when unknown assailants opened fire on him, resulting in his death.
Condemning the attacks, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the martyred officers. He described the incidents as tragic and vowed that the sacrifices of police personnel would not go in vain.
The chief minister said cowardly attacks would not deter the resolve of the nation, adding that police officers remain on the front line in the fight against terrorism. He assured that those responsible would be brought to justice and that the provincial government stands firmly with the police force and will provide all possible support to the families of the martyrs.
