Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has assumed presidential responsibilities following a court order, amid escalating political and military tensions involving the United States. The development comes after the reported arrest of President Nicolás Maduro during U.S. military operations in the country.

Addressing a news conference, Rodríguez strongly rejected statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump and demanded the immediate release of Maduro. She asserted that Nicolás Maduro remains Venezuela’s only legitimate president and vowed that the country would never become a colony of any foreign power.

Rodríguez further pledged to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty and natural resources, emphasizing national unity in the face of external pressure. She said the Venezuelan government remains committed to protecting its independence despite ongoing challenges.

According to reports, U.S. forces carried out coordinated attacks in several locations across Venezuela, including the capital, Caracas. During the operation, President Maduro and his wife were detained and transferred to the United States.

Residents of Caracas reported multiple explosions across the city, while low-flying aircraft were seen over various districts, heightening public concern and fear.

U.S. media outlets reported that President Donald Trump personally authorized the military action. At least seven explosions were reported in Caracas, marking one of the most serious escalations in U.S.-Venezuela relations in recent years.
