At least six police personnel were martyred in a powerful blast caused by explosive material in the Gomal police station area of Tank district, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to police sources, the explosion occurred near a police armored vehicle, resulting in its complete destruction. Among the martyrs was Additional SHO Ishaq Khan, along with five other police officers.
The incident took place about 25 kilometers from Kot Wali area of Tank, where the police vehicle was on routine duty. Following the blast, security forces swiftly reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation to assess the situation and secure the vicinity.
The intensity of the explosion caused severe damage to the armored vehicle, while debris scattered across the surrounding area. Authorities have begun collecting evidence from the site to determine the nature of the explosive device used in the attack.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the Tank blast and paid tribute to the martyred police officers. He said the brave policemen had sacrificed their present for the nation’s peaceful future.
“The great sacrifices of our martyrs will always be remembered,” the interior minister stated, adding that the nation can never forget the unparalleled bravery and dedication of its fallen heroes.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, while security across the region has been heightened to prevent any further untoward incidents.
