Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran is fully prepared for both war and negotiations, as tensions continue to escalate following recent unrest and sharp rhetoric from the United States.
In a statement, Araghchi said violence intensified over the weekend, with what he described as terrorist elements targeting both protesters and security forces. He added that the situation is now fully under control across the country.
The Iranian foreign minister stated that peaceful demonstrations in recent days had turned violent, claiming that around 350 mosques were set on fire during protests over the past two weeks. He emphasized that Iranian security forces showed maximum restraint despite the escalation and acknowledged that protesters initially raised legitimate demands that the government was willing to hear.
Araghchi alleged that the situation deteriorated after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke of possible intervention, claiming that the violence was deliberately fueled to create a pretext for foreign interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
“We are prepared for both war and negotiations,” Araghchi said, signaling Tehran’s readiness for all possible scenarios amid growing regional and international pressure.
The remarks come as President Trump recently stated that Iran had contacted the United States regarding negotiations, and that arrangements for talks were being made.
However, Trump also warned that the United States is considering military options against Iran, suggesting that action could be taken even before diplomatic efforts begin, further heightening concerns of a broader conflict in the region.
