In a major relief for electricity consumers, the federal government has decided not to increase the average base power tariff, officials confirmed following a hearing at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

The decision was taken after a detailed briefing by the Power Division during the NEPRA hearing, where authorities concluded that an increase in the base tariff was unnecessary under the current conditions.

An Additional Secretary of the Power Division informed the regulator that appropriate adjustments had been made in electricity subsidies to prevent any rise in tariffs. As a result, consumers will not face an additional financial burden.

Power Division officials said that since July, there has been a significant improvement in the national energy mix, which has reduced electricity generation costs and made consumer relief possible.

Authorities emphasized that the government carefully reviewed all economic and operational factors before making the final decision to keep electricity tariffs unchanged.

Currently, electricity consumers across all categories are receiving a total subsidy of Rs629 billion, aimed at ensuring affordable power supply nationwide.

Officials reiterated that the government remains committed to providing maximum relief to the public while maintaining stability in the power sector.
