An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has announced its verdict in the May 9 digital terrorism case involving campaigns against state institutions, sentencing five individuals to multiple life terms.

The court sentenced Adil Raja, Haider Mehdi, Wajahat Saeed, Sabir Shakir, and Moeed Pirzada to two life imprisonments each. In addition, the convicts were handed an extra 35 years in prison under various charges and fined Rs1.5 million collectively.

The verdict was pronounced by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, who had earlier reserved the decision after the completion of the trial.

According to court records, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Akbar Hussain were awarded life imprisonment in a case registered at Abpara Police Station, Islamabad. Meanwhile, Shaheen Sehbai, Haider Mehdi, and Wajahat Saeed were sentenced to life imprisonment in a separate case registered at Ramna Police Station.

During the proceedings, the prosecution presented 24 witnesses. The trial was conducted in absentia, with the court noting that Pakistani law permits such proceedings under relevant legal provisions.

The court ruled that the accused were found guilty of running an organized campaign on social media and digital platforms during the May 9 incidents, aimed at inciting violence and spreading hostility against state institutions.
