The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
According to the ICC, Bangladesh declined to play its T20 World Cup matches in India and demanded that all of its fixtures be shifted to Sri Lanka. Following this stance, the ICC decided to include Scotland in place of Bangladesh.
In a statement, the ICC said that extensive discussions were held on the matter for more than three weeks. The council remained in continuous contact with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and carefully reviewed all concerns raised by the board.
The ICC further stated that all issues were discussed in detail with the BCB and assurances were also provided. However, despite these efforts, a mutual agreement could not be reached, leading to Bangladesh’s exclusion from the tournament.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi strongly criticized the decision, calling it unfair treatment of Bangladesh. He said Bangladesh deserved to participate in the T20 World Cup and should be treated as an equal member of the ICC.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that if India was given favorable consideration in matters involving Pakistan, then Bangladesh should also be granted similar treatment. He termed the situation a clear example of double standards, adding that no single country has the right to dictate terms to others.
The PCB chairman further said that if such dictation continued, Pakistan would also maintain its own stance firmly. He clarified that Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup would ultimately be decided by the Government of Pakistan.
According to Naqvi, the PCB operates under the government’s directives more than the ICC, and the final decision would be taken after consultations at the highest level. He added that the PCB is awaiting the Prime Minister’s return to make a final call, after which multiple contingency plans are ready.
