China has accused Bollywood star Salman Khan’s upcoming film ‘Battle of Galwan’ of misrepresenting historical facts, triggering fresh debate even before the movie’s official release.
According to international media reports, the teaser of the film was released on December 27 to mark Salman Khan’s birthday and was also shared by the actor on his official Instagram account.
China’s state-run media outlet Global Times criticized the teaser, claiming that scenes shown in the film do not accurately reflect real events. The publication stated that while films and dramas often dramatize incidents, portraying sensitive issues or another country’s territory in a misleading manner is inappropriate.
The film features Salman Khan in the role of an Indian army officer and is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, a confrontation between Indian and Chinese forces that led to heightened tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Following the clash, both India and China significantly increased troop deployments, border surveillance, and other defensive measures along the disputed frontier, further straining bilateral relations.
Although the movie is scheduled for theatrical release on April 17, 2026, it has already sparked controversy in Indian and Chinese media circles, with discussions intensifying over its portrayal of the sensitive border dispute.
Observers say the reaction highlights how films based on geopolitical conflicts can quickly become a point of diplomatic and media contention between rival nations.
