A major development has emerged regarding the launch of fifth-generation (5G) mobile services in Pakistan, as the federal government has decided to hold the 5G spectrum auction during the month of Ramadan.
According to official plans, 5G services are expected to be launched in major cities within six months following the completion of the spectrum auction. The move marks a significant step toward upgrading Pakistan’s digital and telecommunications infrastructure.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima said the government is aiming to conduct the 5G spectrum auction by the end of February. She noted that improvements in existing 3G and 4G services are also expected after the auction process is completed.
The IT minister stated that efforts are underway to introduce 5G services in major urban centers within six months of the auction. She added that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is actively consulting stakeholders on quality-of-service standards and rollout conditions.
Shaza Fatima emphasized that the government is working to ensure better service delivery and a smooth transition to next-generation technology, which is expected to boost connectivity, innovation, and economic growth.
The planned auction and subsequent rollout highlight Pakistan’s push toward embracing advanced digital services and strengthening its telecommunications sector.
