At least five people were injured after a powerful explosion erupted at a gas cylinder shop in the Coral Sharifabad area of Islamabad on Tuesday, rescue officials confirmed.
According to rescue authorities, the blast triggered a fire inside the shop, which quickly spread to the gas cylinders stored on the premises. Emergency teams responded promptly and managed to bring the flames under control, preventing further damage.
Initial investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. Officials said the leaked gas ignited, resulting in a blast that set multiple cylinders on fire inside the shop.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon stated that five individuals sustained burn injuries in the incident. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where their condition is being monitored.
The deputy commissioner added that the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, preliminary findings indicate that the fire may have broken out while gas cylinders were being refilled.
Following the incident, DC Irfan Memon ordered the immediate sealing of the gas cylinder shop. He also directed relevant authorities to take strict action against all similar shops operating in violation of safety regulations.
