U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that between 30 and 50 million barrels of high-quality oil will be transferred from Venezuela to the United States as part of a new energy initiative.
In a message shared on social media, President Trump stated that the oil would be sold in the United States at market prices. He added that the revenue generated from the sale would remain under his control and would be used for the benefit of both the American and Venezuelan people.
The U.S. president directed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to immediately begin work on the plan and ensure that the oil is delivered to American ports. Trump emphasized that the move is aimed at strengthening energy supplies while advancing U.S. strategic interests.
Prior to the announcement, international media reported that discussions had taken place between U.S. and Venezuelan officials regarding the export of Venezuelan crude oil to the United States. According to news agencies, the oil is expected to be shipped directly to U.S. refineries for processing.
The United States has suspended imports of Venezuelan oil since mid-December, making the latest announcement a significant potential shift in energy policy and bilateral engagement.
Meanwhile, it is expected that executives from major U.S. oil companies will visit the White House on Thursday to discuss possible investments in Venezuela’s energy sector. Both the White House and Venezuelan authorities have so far declined to comment on the latest development.
