WhatsApp users worldwide are being warned about a new and dangerous cyber fraud technique known as “Ghost Pairing,” which allows hackers to silently hijack accounts without breaching traditional security systems, according to cybersecurity experts.

Reports indicate that hackers exploit WhatsApp’s “Linked Devices” feature to gain full access to users’ messages, photos, videos, and voice notes. By abusing this functionality, attackers can monitor conversations and control accounts without alerting the account holder.

Experts say the scam usually begins with a fake link sent to users, often designed to resemble a legitimate or well-known website. When users click the link and enter their mobile number and verification code, they unknowingly link their WhatsApp account to the hacker’s device.

Once access is gained, hackers can read private messages, download media files, impersonate the victim by sending messages, and spread the scam further by targeting contacts from the compromised account. In most cases, users do not receive any clear notification that their account has been hijacked.

Cybersecurity specialists warn that this method poses serious privacy and identity risks, as attackers can misuse personal data and conduct fraudulent activities under the victim’s identity.

Authorities and experts are urging users to take preventive steps to protect their accounts and regularly monitor security settings to detect unauthorized access early.
