The United States has announced fresh restrictions preventing Chinese technology companies from purchasing advanced semiconductor chips from American chipmaker Nvidia.

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, the move is aimed at limiting China’s access to high-performance computing technology that could be used for military or artificial intelligence purposes. Officials stated that national security concerns were central to the decision.

Nvidia, one of the world’s leading chip manufacturers, confirmed that the ban will affect the supply of some of its most advanced processors, including AI-focused chips widely used in data centers and research facilities.

The Chinese government has condemned the ban, calling it an “unjust restriction” that undermines fair trade and global innovation. Beijing urged Washington to reverse the decision, warning that such measures could further strain economic relations between the two countries.

Analysts suggest the ban may push China to accelerate the development of its domestic semiconductor industry, while global markets may face volatility due to supply chain disruptions.

This latest step is part of an ongoing technology rivalry between the U.S. and China, with semiconductors at the heart of strategic competition.
