The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain for Karachi over the next 24 hours, warning that the city may continue to experience heavy showers and strong winds. After Monday night’s downpour, which caused widespread flooding and traffic disruptions, authorities remain on high alert.
Large parts of the city, including Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Clifton, and North Karachi, are still recovering from waterlogging that left roads submerged and traffic paralyzed. Commuters faced severe challenges on Shahrah-e-Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, and Korangi Industrial Area, where rainwater accumulated, forcing many vehicles to break down.
Administrator Karachi and Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited the affected areas and directed municipal teams to expedite drainage operations. He also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the city administration during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, K-Electric confirmed that dozens of feeders tripped during the heavy rainfall, leading to power outages in several neighborhoods. Residents have expressed anger over prolonged breakdowns, demanding urgent restoration.
Rescue officials stated that while minor accidents and dozens of vehicle breakdowns were reported, no major casualties occurred. Relief teams remain deployed in low-lying areas, with instructions to provide immediate assistance to citizens.
Authorities have strongly advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors, and prepare for possible further downpours.
