Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint-Germain has been awarded the 2025 Ballon d’Or, marking the first time in his career he has won this prestigious honour. The announcement comes following an extraordinary 2024-25 season in which he played a central role in PSG’s historic treble.
Dembélé’s contributions were instrumental across multiple fronts: domestically, he helped PSG secure Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions; in Europe, his performances were key to PSG lifting their first Champions League trophy.
He outperformed several top contenders, notably Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, who finished in second place, and other heavyweights such as Mohamed Salah and Raphinha.
During the award ceremony held at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Dembélé delivered an emotional speech, expressing gratitude to his teammates, coaching staff, and family. He described the season as “exceptional,” and said winning the Ballon d’Or had long been a dream he had worked relentlessly towards.
PSG also had a very successful night overall: they were named Men’s Club of the Year, while fellow teammate Aitana Bonmatí won the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year. Other PSG players earned awards / nominations too, reflecting the club’s dominance in this season.
