Pakistani authorities on Tuesday detained Falak Javaid Khan, a political activist associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), during a security operation in the federal capital.
According to initial reports, Khan was taken into custody from a protest camp in Islamabad’s Red Zone, where PTI supporters had gathered to demand the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the restoration of party activities.
Police officials said the arrest was made on charges of incitement and violating Section 144, which prohibits public gatherings in the restricted area. However, PTI leaders condemned the detention, calling it an “attempt to silence dissent” and demanded the immediate release of their colleague.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the arrest sparked chants from protesters, who vowed to continue demonstrations despite growing restrictions. Human rights groups also expressed concern, urging authorities to respect the democratic right to peaceful protest.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan, with PTI activists facing increasing detentions and protests intensifying in major cities.
