Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has nominated Sohail Afridi, a 38-year-old PTI lawmaker, as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The decision was made following the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur on October 8, 2025.

According to party sources, the nomination comes amid growing security and administrative challenges in the province, particularly after a recent terrorist attack in Orakzai on October 9, which claimed the lives of several civilians and security personnel.

Sohail Afridi, who previously served as Minister for Education, is known for his work on youth empowerment and education reforms. His appointment signals the PTI leadership’s focus on rebuilding public trust, promoting transparency, and restoring peace in terrorism-affected regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Political analysts believe Afridi’s leadership will be crucial as the province navigates pressing economic and security challenges in the coming months.
