Tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border escalated sharply in October 2025 after Pakistan conducted airstrikes on Taliban hideouts. The strikes prompted a retaliatory response from Afghan Taliban forces, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 Pakistani soldiers.

The flare-up coincided with stalled peace talks in Istanbul, where negotiations collapsed amid accusations that Afghan Taliban elements were harboring militants targeting Pakistan. Both sides blamed each other for the breakdown, intensifying regional concerns over stability.

In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned Pakistan’s alleged cross-border actions and reaffirmed India’s support for Afghan sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region.

Meanwhile, Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani warned that any additional aggression would be met with a forceful response, signaling heightened alert along the border. Despite the tensions, both countries have expressed willingness to resume dialogue under regional mediation, though the path to peace remains uncertain.

The recent clashes underscore the fragility of peace efforts in the region and the ongoing challenges in addressing militant activity while maintaining cross-border security.
