25 Million Fine on K-Electric

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed a fine of Rs 25 million on K-Electric over violations related to service standards and power management.

According to NEPRA, the penalty was issued after investigations found that K-Electric failed to ensure consistent power supply and did not fully comply with safety and maintenance regulations in several areas of Karachi.

The regulatory body emphasized that electricity companies must maintain reliability and safety in their systems to protect consumers’ rights. NEPRA stated that strict action will continue against any utility found negligent in providing uninterrupted and safe power to the public.

On the other hand, a spokesperson for K-Electric says that the fine imposed on K-Electric for the power breakdown due to a fault in the NTDC system in January 2023 is surprising.
