In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, following high-level negotiations held in Doha, Qatar. The announcement was made by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming that the agreement was reached with mediation from Qatar and Turkey.
According to the official statement, both sides also agreed to hold further meetings in the coming days to establish a permanent mechanism for peace and stability along their shared border. The Qatari ministry emphasized that the ceasefire will lay a strong foundation for lasting regional peace and is expected to help reduce ongoing border tensions between the two neighboring countries.
The talks were hosted by Qatari Intelligence Chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, with Pakistan’s delegation led by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, accompanied by senior security officials. The Afghan delegation was headed by Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob.
The ceasefire announcement follows Friday’s agreement to extend the initial 48-hour truce amid escalating clashes along the Durand Line. This development is being hailed as a positive step toward de-escalation and potential long-term cooperation between the two countries.
