In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s space program, the country has successfully launched its first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1, into orbit. The launch took place in China, with live visuals of the event broadcast at the SUPARCO headquarters in Karachi.
According to experts, the satellite successfully entered its designated orbit within 28 minutes of launch. However, officials noted that it may take a few months before the satellite begins transmitting operational data back to Earth.
A spokesperson for SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) described the launch as a major milestone under Pakistan’s National Space Policy and Vision 2047. The HS-1 satellite is designed to revolutionize infrastructure mapping, urban planning, agricultural development, and environmental monitoring.
The hyperspectral imaging technology aboard HS-1 will also enhance disaster prediction and management, particularly in identifying flood risks, landslides, and geological threats. Officials believe that this cutting-edge capability will significantly improve Pakistan’s ability to monitor climate change and natural hazards in real time.
The spokesperson further revealed that HS-1 is Pakistan’s third satellite launched this year, following the successful deployment of EO-1 and KS-1, both of which remain fully operational in orbit. With this latest mission, Pakistan has taken a major leap forward, entering a new era of advanced space technology and scientific innovation.
