In a major diplomatic development, Pakistan has agreed to a temporary ceasefire following a formal request from the Afghan Taliban government.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision was made after the Taliban regime in Kabul appealed for a pause in hostilities to create space for constructive dialogue. The 48-hour ceasefire came into effect at 6 p.m. today and will remain in place until further notice.

The Foreign Office stated that both sides are seeking a peaceful resolution through mutual understanding and continued communication. “Pakistan believes in addressing all concerns through dialogue and cooperation. Efforts are underway to find a positive and lasting solution,” the statement added.

Sources revealed that Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, will lead Islamabad’s delegation during the upcoming discussions, while the Afghan side is expected to be represented by their Foreign Minister.

The decision marks a cautious but hopeful step toward reducing tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where sporadic clashes and cross-border incidents have strained relations in recent months.

Observers view the ceasefire as an opportunity to rebuild trust and establish a framework for future cooperation on security and border management.
