Security forces in Pakistan successfully foiled an infiltration attempt by militants exploiting the temporary ceasefire between the Taliban and Kharijites, killing between 45 and 50 extremists in a major counterterrorism operation in Mohmand district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to security sources, the militants — identified as members of the Kharijite faction — attempted to cross into Pakistani territory late on October 15–16, but were intercepted by the Pakistan Army following intelligence-based operations. Several militants were also injured during the clash.

The operation specifically targeted a large militant formation preparing attacks in border areas of Mohmand. Sources added that military action continued into the following day, with troops maintaining control over the region.

Earlier this week, 34 terrorists were killed in similar security operations conducted between October 13 and 15 across different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The military’s media wing, ISPR, confirmed that these operations were part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist networks and prevent cross-border militancy.

The latest confrontation follows a 48-hour ceasefire initiated at the request of the Afghan Taliban, after Pakistan’s targeted strikes on Kharijite hideouts in Afghanistan resulted in multiple casualties.
