In a significant political development, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad, where both parties agreed to nominate Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
The PTI delegation, comprising former Speaker Asad Qaiser, Provincial President Junaid Akbar, and Shahram Tarakai, visited Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence for the meeting. From the JUI-F side, Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, Jalaluddin Advocate, and Maulana Asjad Mahmood also attended.
According to the official JUI-F statement, discussions focused on the current political landscape and regional situation. The PTI delegation also sought Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s input on the party’s proposal to establish a national jirga in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which the JUI-F leader welcomed.
The PTI delegation urged Maulana Fazlur Rehman to play an active role in unifying the opposition within Parliament, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to counter government policies. The two parties reached a consensus to support Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination as the joint opposition leader.
Additionally, PTI requested JUI-F’s cooperation for the upcoming Senate by-election seat from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, signaling a possible start of broader opposition coordination in the coming months.
