Russia has successfully conducted a test of its new long-range nuclear-powered cruise missile, “Burevestnik,” which can reportedly travel across continents and evade existing missile defense systems, the Russian military confirmed on Monday.

According to General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, the test was conducted on October 21, during which the Burevestnik missile flew for approximately 15 hours, covering a distance of 14,000 kilometers before hitting its target.

General Gerasimov briefed President Vladimir Putin about the test at the Joint Group of Forces Command Center, highlighting that the missile demonstrated the capability to bypass any anti-missile defense network with precision.

President Putin described the weapon as “unique and unmatched globally,” noting that the final phase of deployment preparations has begun following the successful series of tests.

The Burevestnik missile, also known under NATO’s designation SSC-X-9 “Skyfall,” is part of Russia’s next-generation strategic weapons program, designed to ensure nuclear deterrence and long-range strike capability beyond traditional limits.

Western analysts have expressed concern over the missile’s nuclear propulsion system, which allows unlimited range and extended flight duration, making it a potential game-changer in global nuclear strategy.
