Israeli authorities have arrested Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the former Military Advocate General, following the leak of a disturbing video showing Israeli soldiers torturing a Palestinian prisoner inside Sde Teiman Prison.
The controversial video, first aired by an Israeli news channel in August 2024, depicted soldiers brutally assaulting a Palestinian detainee, who was later transferred to a hospital in critical condition. The footage sparked widespread outrage and led to the arrest of five soldiers involved in the incident.
An internal investigation into the leak began last week, during which General Tomer-Yerushalmi was placed on forced leave and soon after resigned from her position. She reportedly admitted that the video had been leaked from her office to the media.
Following her resignation, reports emerged of her disappearance, recovery, and now formal arrest, signaling a dramatic turn in the case.
Israeli military and legal analysts say the incident raises serious concerns about accountability and ethics within the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), especially regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners and internal whistleblowing.
