In a historic moment for Indian cricket, the India Women’s team won their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final. The thrilling match, held under light rain delays, showcased India’s dominance with both bat and ball.

After being invited to bat first, India posted an impressive total of 298 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs. Shafali Verma was the star of the innings, scoring a blistering 87 runs with 2 sixes and 7 fours. Deepti Sharma added a valuable 58, while Smriti Mandhana made 45. Contributions from Richa Ghosh (34) and Jemimah Rodrigues (24) helped India reach a formidable total.

South Africa’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, though Ayabonga Khaka took three wickets, while Nadine de Klerk, Nonkululeko Mlaba, and Chloe Tryon claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 299, South Africa got off to a strong start with captain Laura Wolvaardt anchoring the innings with a superb century (101 off 108 balls). However, once she departed, the Indian bowlers took charge. Deepti Sharma produced a match-winning spell, claiming five wickets as South Africa was bowled out for 246 runs in 47.3 overs.

India’s victory marks a historic achievement for women’s cricket in the country, solidifying their rise as a global powerhouse in the sport.
